Land for HAWS

The committee and volunteers of the Hartbeespoort Animal Welfare Society writes:

The Hartbeespoort Animal Welfare Society is a non-profit organisation serving the community of Madibeng, working with abandoned and neglected animals of the area, as well as providing a rehoming service. With no government funding, HAWS relies solely on fundraising and donations.
Our present lease should have expired in 2½ years; however, in February we were given six months notice and we therefore need to find somewhere to move to in the very near future.
HAWS has been offered the use of a portion of privately owned agricultural holding in the Hartbeespoort area for five years or perhaps longer. However, it will be costly to build kennels and a cattery, most of which would need to be portable, only to have to move again after a few years. Ideally, HAWS urgently needs to obtain its own property, where a permanent kennel facility can be built, so that all expenditure on infrastructure becomes an asset of the Society and a benefit to Madibeng.
HAWS has appealed to the Local Municipality of Madibeng for a land grant a number of times since November 2006. The Municipality replied to our first letter saying that we would be kept informed during the first quarter of 2007. At the time of writing we have heard nothing further from them.
Ideally, we need to obtain our own property where a permanent kennel facility can be built, so that all expenditure on infrastructure becomes an asset of the Society and a benefit to the local municipality of Madibeng and where we could possibly accommodate animals other than just dogs and cats.
Since there is no municipal pound, HAWS is forced to act as the pound as well as an animal welfare organisation. We believe that, in the interest of our fast growing community, our Municipality would gain great credit by providing HAWS with a small tract of municipal land and some financial support, so that HAWS is able to continue to serve the community of Madibeng and its animals .

Thank you

Joan Williams from Brits/Hartbeespoort Hospice writes:

Hospice takes this opportunity to say a special thank you to the following people for their recent donations to upgrading our new shop: Mr and Mrs D Redpath from Hartbeespoort for the donation of a new cash register and to Mr Jopie Robbertse for the two mirrors for the fitting room.
Thanks also to the members of the public who have taken the time to clean out their cupboards to keep our shelves full. As this is a never-ending cycle of supply and demand, we hope the community will keep Hospice in mind whenever they are ‘spring cleaning’ no matter what time of the year.

Calling all designers

Renato Palmi from Kwazulu-Natal writes:

I am a researcher and development practitioner for the South African clothing and fashion sectors.
I have been tasked with an attempt to compile an electronic database of South African fashion designers which will be used to promote local SA design and in the hope promote and create visibility for our fashion designers. I encourage all established and new fashion designers to please forward me your name, label name and contact details. Please email the details to: yakshack@iafrica,com "
