Two events planned for October and November are sure to place the spotlight on the Brits-Hartbeespoort Hospice and the work it does in the Madibeng commu-nity while raising the necessary funds to do the work.

To celebrate World Hospice and Palliative Care Day, Brits-Hartbeespoort Hospice is hosting a cycle race and fun walk at Van Gaalen Cheese Farm in Skeerpoort on Sunday 10 October. Anneke Boshoff, from Brits-Hartbeespoort Hospice, said that the cycle race will start at 06:00 and the funwalk at 08:00 and everyone is welcome to participate. Tickets can be bought in advance at R50 per person from the Hospice office and charity shop at 38 Van Velden Street, Brits, from Anneke Boshoff on 083 710 4905 or the Schoemansville Pharmacy in St Monica Street, Schoemansville.

Boshoff said that the aim of the two events is to create awareness for pallia-tive care within the local community while celebrating International World Hospice and Palliative Care Day in a sporting manner, focusing on a healthy lifestyle. She said that it promises to be a great family day for young and old. The cost of the ticket includes light refreshments and there will be plenty of spot prizes for lucky entrants. For more information contact Boshoff on 083 710 4905 or e-mail to bosje_2000@ yahoo.com.

Well-known cabaret artist, Helena Hettema will be performing at the annual Hospice charity auction and cabaret at the Doxa Deo Auditorium at Xanadu on Friday 12 November. Last year, cabaret artist, Anna Davel, was the entertainer for the evening, and her appearance and participation was a great success.

Helena Hettema is an established cabaret artist, actress and songwriter and received the top achiever 2007 Laureate Award from her alma mater, the University of Pretoria. She was also nominated for the 2006 Checkers/Shopwrite SA Woman of the Year Awards in the Arts and Culture category.
Helena has nine CDs to her credit which have received awards ranging from SAMA and FNB Vita nominations to the SABC 2 Geraas (GMT) Award for the best solo female vocalist 2005 for the CD "Divided Heart". In July 2006, Helena was voted by viewers of KykNet among the top ten South African divas with others such as Sibongile Khumalo and Laurika Rauch. Any business or individual interested in donating goods for the charity auction, such as spot prizes, wine, art, signed copies of books, jewellery or a weekend's accommodation is wel-come to contact Anneke Boshoff.
Tickets for the cabaret and auction will be available from mid-September.

Tickets cost R250 per per-son and include a light dinner and drinks, as well as the cabaret and auction in aid of the Hospice's patient care fund.
