Madibeng hit by cholera outbreak

Two people have died from cholera and six more are being treated for the disease at the Madibeng fire station in Brits. Eighteen more people are currently being treated for diarrhea and the North West Department of Health is awaiting test results that will determine whether these patients also suffer from cholera. Effluent from treatment plant a cause for concern

Concerns have been raised over the past two months about the quality of the effluent released from the Crocodile River from the Brits Waste Water Treatment Plant. These concerns include that chlorine is not being added to the effluent before it is released and that this water is being used by farmer downstream to irrigate their vegetable crops. Read more ...

Madibeng refutes claims of no chlorine

The Local Municipality of Madibeng this week refuted claims that they are not adding chlorine to the water released from the waste water treatment plant in Brits and said that chlorine is being added by hand at the Rietfontein plant as the dosing system is out of order. Read  more ...

Sewage swamp on Dam shore

Another sewage spill of thousand of litres was discovered in the veld between Melodie and Ifafi where two sewage manholes are located close to the shore of the Hartbeespoort Dam. The spill was first discovered in December and since then it seems that the overflow of the manholes have continued, causing a swamp of sewage to form in the veld. Read more ...
